ITW
HeartlandThe principles of functional gear inspection were developed by Illinois Tool Works in 1936. Much of the progress in the field of gear inspection in the last 60 years has come from ITW innovations. Today ITW Heartland continues the tradition of accurate, reliable equipment for both manual and high-speed gear measurement. ITW Heartland offers a full line of gear inspection equipment that includes manual, semiautomatic, and completely automatic machines.
The manually operated machines consist of bench top gear rolling units and dimension over balls/pins measurement units, which can be purchased complete with computer, printer and specifically designed cart. Semi-automatic machines provide entirely automatic gear checks free from operator influence after parts are manually loaded. Fully automatic inspection machines require no manpower throughout the entire machine cycle. From gear loading and inspection to unloading and automatic part sorting, these machines offer high-speed gear inspection of up to 750 gears per hour. Various models are available based on the type of gear to inspect and cycle time needed. Types of gears that can be inspected are planet pinions, sun gears, ring gears (internal and external), shaft gears, and worm gears. Special applications can also be accommodated.
In addition to gear inspection, ITW developed the gear burnishing process in 1967. Burnishing equipment is designed to remove nicks, burrs, and heat treat scale from gear teeth and provide an improved surface finish. With their patented Gerac Oscillation System that employs Automatic Spherical Positioning and Trivariable Die Design, ITW is the premiere source of gear burnishing equipment worldwide. Machines are fully automatic and can accommodate a variety of gears.
ITW Heartland's latest development is a "Turnkey System" which incorporates a gear burnisher, gear washer, and automatic gear inspection machine in a complete system. A number of machine configurations are available depending on factory floor space.
