Solar Atmospheres’ “Low Torr Vacuum Carburizing” results in optimum case hardening. Minimized distortion is attained through gas quenching and precise temperature controls.

Vacuum carburizing provides a superior case integrity by preventing microstructure surface intergranular oxidation (IGO) and decarburization. Additionally, the process produces compressive residual stress for improved fatigue life.

Vacuum carburizing extends wear life for gears with excellent case depth uniformity, including gear to pitch ratios. Plus, the parts are bright and clean after processing.

Solar Atmospheres Advantages
     Quick turnaround from furnace capabilities
Customize cycle development for specific applications
Efficient part handling from insitu furnace quenching
     Ability to carburize blind holes
Automation of specific cycles to insure repeatability
     Environmentally friendly process

Solar welcomes the opportunity to discuss your carburizing applications. Because of furnace (6 feet long, 24 inches wide and high) and processing capability, Solar offers specific cycle development for a range of alloys. New cycles are being developed to process new applications, including powdered metal parts. Solar’s vacuum processing, insitu capability and customized approach will greatly contribute to the high value of your parts.
