REpower Systems and Essar Group To Partner in Indian Wind Energy Market

April 22, 2006
RREpower Systems has entered into a licensed agreement with India's Essar Group to facilitate entry into that country's growing wind energy market. In addition to REpower's 1.5-magawatt technology, the partners also intend to form a joint venture to produce REpower's 2.0-megawatt turbines in 2007. The contract territory of the joint venture?Essar REpower India?will also include potential markets in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, with REpower holding the controlling interest. ?India, with approximately 4,250 megawatts of totally installed wind power capacity is today the largest market in Asia and ranks No. 4 in the world,? said Professor Fritz Vahrenholt, REpower Systems chairman. ?With Essar and its fundamental expertise in power plant and other construction services, we have found an excellent partner for a successful business in this market.? In addition to developing special towers for Essar's steelplates grade, REpower will also provide 37-meter blades and, pending further discussion, an enhanced local gearbox supply.
