R&P Metrology Announces 1600DS Measuring Machine

February 7, 2014
R&P Metrology GmbH announced a new model in their full line of metrology systems, the RPG 1600DS. This system is designed for gears up to 1,600 mm (62.99”) in diameter and with 2 meters (78.74”) between centers for shaft parts. Hans Rauth, president of R&P Metrology, explains: “The RPG 1600DS is the most cost effective four axis, generative gear inspection machine available. The stiff and tall tailstock can hold parts up to 2 meters in length, and measures face widths of 1,200 mm (47.24”). When measuring large diameter gears, the tailstock swings to a safe position for parts up to 1,600 mm (62.99”) in diameter.”

With the X-axis running on ultra-precise mechanical bearings for utmost rigidity, the Y and Z axes utilize granite guideways and air bearings. All linear axes use linear motors for ultimate precision. The high precision, air bearing rotary table is mounted on a granite bed and is driven directly by a torque motor. Since the machine rests on an active suspension system, no separate foundation is required.

As with all R&P Metrology four axis systems, both gear inspection and prismatic (3-D CMM) measurements are available with proven CNC control and analysis software. The RPG 1600DS is I++ compliant, allowing the use of many CMM inspection packages.

R&P Metrology designs and builds metrology equipment, concentrating on medium and large parallel axis gears, bevel gears, tools, shafts, bearing rings and 3-D parts. The range starts at approximately 1.0 meter in size. R&P specializes in custom and special systems, and produces hybrid systems that uniquely combine gear measurement with conventional CMM metrology as well as the world’s only portable CNC gear checker. Support, service and sales for North America is provided by Kapp Technologies in Boulder, Colorado.
