Nidec Machine Tool Corporation announced today that it has launched Robot Camera SPEED, visual inspection equipment for cutting tools (hobbing machines) to process gears and other components, and Robot Camera MAX, visual inspection equipment for broaching machines.
Broaching is an unusual machining process, because it has the feed built into the tool, which effectively makes it a collection of single-point cutting tools arrayed in a sequence. Analogous to the multiple passes of a shaper, a relatively new class of CNC tooling and programming allows broaching operations to be done without the need for a second operation, thus greatly increasingly quality control and reducing time, space and cost.
Broaching is a process in which a cutting tool passes over or through a part piece to produce a desired form. A broach removes part material with a series of teeth, each one removing a specified amount of stock.
