Seven Stages of ExpertiseBy Chuck Schultz
There is no "gear expert" merit badge for you to earn. I have posted before about the limited amount of gear education included in the standard engineering curriculum here in the U.S.; you are not alone in finding yourself thrust into the trade without baseline knowledge. We at Gear Technology are determined to raise our national "gear literacy" level with content targeted at those just entering our community.
Gear Carburizing in Vacuum
Solar Atmospheres provides low pressure vacuum carburizing (LPVC) that significantly increases the surface hardness/strength of steel parts for improved friction and wear. Performing LPVC in a vacuum furnace eliminates oxygen and prevents IGO (intergranular oxidation) that is inherent in atmospheric carburizing, resulting in clean parts with less distortion reducing post process finishing operations, and costs.
Low cost, high precision nitriding solution
For gear heat treaters seeking an exceptionally high quality nitriding and ferritic nitrocarburizing solution, SECO/VACUUM's innovative ZeroFlow® process reduces operating costs and offers improved quality of the resulting nitrided layers.
