Verisurf Software Powers New Renishaw PH20 PLUS
Verisurf Software demonstrated Renishaw's new PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger probe head at IMTS 2026 in Chicago, running it with Verisurf's CAD-based inspection software. The PH20 PLUS has a maximum working length of 300 mm from the center of the A-axis. That is more than 50 percent more reach than the current PH20.
The new head keeps the speed of the original PH20 and adds a redesigned A-axis and kinematic mount. These accept a wider range of probe module extensions, including longer and heavier probe configurations. The redesign adds 107 mm of reach, and the head takes stylus lengths up to 50 mm. The added reach gives better access to deep, recessed and otherwise hard-to-reach features.
The PH20 PLUS is backward compatible and is designed as a direct replacement for the PH20. It works with the existing range of TP20 probe modules except the extended force module. The powered PCR20 rack holds multiple probe modules and accessories and exchanges them automatically during measurement routines.
"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability, which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements that could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, product manager at Renishaw. “Existing PH20 users will be able to adopt the new head and reuse existing programs and measurement strategies, while benefiting from increased reach and greater flexibility.”
Verisurf's software uses model-based definition (MBD) to plan measurements directly from the CAD model, and it provides device controls and repeatable inspection routines for CMM operation. "Extended value comes from combining advanced sensor capability with software that makes that capability practical and repeatable on the shop floor," said Nick Merrell, executive vice president at Verisurf.
Verisurf software works with major CAD systems and measurement devices, including CMMs, portable arms, laser trackers, scanners and machine tool probing systems.
