Dr. Andy Wild is a Senior Research Engineer/AI Specialist at SMT, where, in almost three years, he has helped develop and deliver machine-learning solutions, including its microgeometry optimizer. With a Ph.D in Theoretical Physics from the University of Exeter, he applies machine learning to powertrain design and optimization.
This paper examines the optimization of a gear set in which an idler gear is driven by two input gears; the gear set will be optimized for NVH and durability across both meshes using Advanced-LTCA, a hybrid Hertzian and FE-based loaded tooth contact analysis.
