Christian Westphal has been head of the Gear Technology Department at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL and the Manufacturing Technology Institute MTI at RWTH Aachen University since 2024. Prior to this, he was team leader for Gearbox NVH since 2022 and a research associate since 2019.
The article proposes a method to optimize cylindrical gearbox tolerances by balancing gear noise performance and manufacturing costs using modeling, analysis, and meta-model-based optimization.
